چکیده

The Global MARKAL-Model (GMM), a multi-regional "bottom-up" partial equilibrium model of the global energy system with endogenous technological learning, is used to address impacts of internalisation of external costs from power production. This modelling approach imposes additional charges on electricity generation, which reflect the costs of environmental and health damages from local pollutants (SO2, NOx) and climate change, wastes, occupational health, risk of accidents, noise and others. Technologies allowing capturing of pollutants emitted from power plants are introduced into the energy system, for example desulphurisation, NOx removal, and CO2 scrubbers. The model indicates substantial changes in the electricity production system (new technologies penetration and fuel switching), caused by internalisation of external costs and also efficiency loss due to the use of scrubbers. There is significant environmental impact concerning the local pollution and CO2 emissions reduction over the whole modelled time period. Finally, the detailed analysis of the total generation cost of different technologies including the effect of internalisation of external cost has been performed in order to evaluate the competitiveness of present and future energy systems.

Assessment of climate response policy options using the Global Multi-regional Markal (GMM) model

The implications of key policy measures aimed at reducing global Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions through the deployment of advanced and climate-friendly energy fuels and conversion technologies are the focus of this study. The study was performed for the ACROPOLIS Project of the European Commission (EC) and the NCCR-CLIMATE Project. The structural, environmental and economic impacts of a set of ...

A Mathematical Model for Multi-Region, Multi-Source, Multi-Period Generation Expansion Planning in Renewable Energy for Country-Wide Generation-Transmission Planning

Environmental pollution and rapid depletion are among the chief concerns about fossil fuels such as oil, gas, and coal. Renewable energy sources do not suffer from such limitations and are considered the best choice to replace fossil fuels. The present study develops a mathematical model for optimal allocation of regional renewable energy to meet a country-wide demand and its other essential as...

Return on Investment in Transmission Network Expansion Planning Considering Wind Generation Uncertainties Applying Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm

Although significant private investment is absorbed in different sectors of power systems, transmission sector is still suffering from appropriate private investment. This is because of the pricing policies of transmission services, tariffs, and especially for investment risks. Investment risks are due to the uncertain behaviour of power systems that discourage investors to invest in the transm...

A Fuzzy Multi Objective Programming Model for Power Generation and Transmission Expansion Planning Problem

The increasing consumption of electricity over time forces different countries to establishnew power plants and transmission lines. There are various crisp single-objective mathematicalmodels in the literature for the long-term power generation and transmission expansion planning tohelp the decision makers to make more reasonable decisions. But, in practice, most of the parametersassociated wit...

Transmission Congestion Management Considering Uncertainty of Demand Response Resources’ Participation

Under the smart grid environment, demand response resources (DRRs) are introduced as a virtual power plant to enhance power system adequacy. DRRs often fail to reduce their load due to some external factors. In this paper, a reliability model of a DRR is constructed as multi-state conventional generation units, where the probability, frequency of occurrence, and departure rate of each state can...
